As you read in the headline we as Photographers need to protect ourselves, and the easiest way to do that is by using a 18 USC 2257 compliant model release form. But having one doesn't do you any good unless you are having your models sign it! You need to make this the very first step in any photo shoot you do and let me tell you why.
Some of you may be doing this as a hobby, but others may actually want to make money off a photo shoot by selling their images. If you don't have a model release the likelihood of a company buying your images without one is pretty slim and if they are willing they are probably up to no good.
