| I think the best way to describe my photography experience would be by calling it “dumb luck” As a child I expressed no interest in photography that carried through my high school and college years… I’m a native “Pittsburghian” go Steelers! But was transferred to Tampa, FL for a healthcare company I was working for soon after college. Never before had I been to a place with so many incredibly beautiful women. Not as a slight to Pittsburgh, it has its share of beauty as well, just not in the concentration that Tampa has - plus... Tampa's climate is much kinder to bathing suit season! I was working many hours, which consumed much of my free time, I felt at minimum I needed something to divert my attention from my busy work schedule. So I bought some photography equipment and thought I might mess around with photography. I lived in a apartment complex with a pool that would rival The Hard Rock Café in Vegas the social events I always enjoyed I became friendly with a lot of girls at the pool... and began to ask if they would mind helping me learn photography, by standing in as a model...some were reluctant, but others thought it would be a fun thing to do. I soon became known as “the guy who takes pictures” at the pool. For whatever reason, and having never cracked a book I quickly became pretty okay at photography, and it seemed that more and more girls wanted me to take their pictures. Eventually I started a small (out of my apartment) photography company called Pictures4fun, it was hardly profitable as I rarely charged for my services I loved shooting and had so much fun it hardly seemed worth it to put a price tag on it…weekends soon became booked with new girls wanting pictures or wanting to get into modeling. The gods were on my side… A “very pretty” girl was once referred to me for a shoot, who’s boyfriend owned an immensely popular website. As luck would have it, this shoot wound up producing images that were so good, I actually was surprised that they came out of my camera! Her boyfriend was very pleased with my photos and soon after hired me as a staff photographer for his internet company. Sites of this kind were booming, and the more photos meant more money for the owners. This opportunity allowed me to quit my real job, and pursue photography fulltime. Life was great and still is….now getting paid to shoot beautiful women! I still maintain a list of clients in Florida who pay me to shoot models for various publications. But most of the time I can be found working out of my commercial studio in Pittsburgh. The commercial photography pays the bills and supports my livelihood; the glamour photography is the fun stuff, which keeps me coming back to Florida. I have made some wonderful friends over the years, and have had experiences you could only read about due to my photography. I decided to start this website with hopes of others getting to have similar or better opportunities then me… Sure, you can use these skills to take pictures of cars or landscapes... but what fun is that when compared to photographing models in bikinis, lingerie or nothing at all! It's an art form that few in the industry ever get to experience, and even fewer learn to teach. I wanted to start a place where I could share my knowledge and experience with those who wanted to learn - and you are HERE! My approach with this School is to make it easy to follow, accessible to beginners and yet still interesting to intermediate and experienced photographers who haven't worked with this type of content. We keep our discussions far from formal and at a technical level that most people can understand. I work hard to maintain dialogue with all my students. Feel free to ask questions and exchange feedback. The classes I teach are offered in an online setting that is convenient and affordable to all.
